Second Grade News
G’day Mate!!! Second Grade is currently exploring The Land Down Under and we just wanted to let all you Blokes and Shelias know where we would be over the next few weeks. So whether you are a drover or a postie, don’t be worried, we haven’t taken a ute, a boot or a brumby to get there. We are just reading lots of great books about Australia. We promise to eat our brekkie, not eat too many lollies and wear clean strides every day! So, no worries, we are learning a lot and having fun along the way. And remember, there is no need to get your sticky beak out of joint, we are still safe here at BBS, no matter how far our books take us on our travels.
In case you did not understand a word we said in the opening, let me rephrase and clarify, just so no one gets confused or upset…Second Grade is studying the continent, country of Australia this week! We are learning about the fascinating and sometimes strange animals God made that live in the land they call “Down Under.” We are exploring the Coral Reef located off the coast of Australia and the Great Sandy Desert, one of the hottest places on the continent. We explored these regions via the internet, giving us an up-close and detailed look at those regions.
Over the next few days, your student will be assigned an Australian animal to research. He/She will need to use non-fiction (fact) books, newspapers, magazines or the internet to acquire this information. Please check your student’s STAR Binder if you have not already seen this assignment.
Australian animals have also given us crucial information to graph. We are making tables and graphs of our favorite Australian animals, those that live in the water, those that are mammals, ones that are marsupials and even the ones that are classified as monotremes. Graphs can organize a world of information!
Please be keeping a record of your child’s reading minutes and turning those in to the teachers. Watch your STAR Binder for upcoming dates to remember. Finally, have a safe and restful Labor Day Weekend.
