Accelerated Biology
This accelerated class is designed for those students who desire a faster paced, more in depth study of the topics of Biology I. Students who excel in science or intend to take AP Biology are encouraged to take Accelerated Biology I.
Advanced Placement Biology
This college-level introductory biology course is designed to cover the major areas included in the College Board outline in preparaton for the AP examination. Areas of study include genetics, evolution, molecules and cells as well as recommended laboratory experiences. Students are required to take the College Board AP examination in order to receive the Advanced Placement designation on their transcript.
Biology I
This study of the science of life untilizes a variety of strategies, including laboratories and discussion. Students investigate the structures and functions of cells as well as the transfer of energy during photosynthesis and respiration; evidences of biological evolution and forces of natural selection are analyzed. Students also investigate concepts of genetics and heredity in addition to the patterns of heredity and genetic disorders. Systems of classification and the interactions of organisms with their environment through population dynamics and patterns of behavior are studied.
