I have a double major in French/Spanish and have taught in the Chattanooga area for many years; first at Hixson Middle where I taught English, French and coordinated the Gifted program. From 1986 – 1994 I taught French and Spanish ( K – 12) at Chattanooga School for the Arts and Sciences and chaired the foreign language department my last two years there. My tenure at Boyd began in 1994 when my daughter entered 6th grade.

French I
At Level I, emphasis will be placed on increasing comprehension skills and the acquisition of vocabulary. Speech will be encouraged in a natural way as a by-product of comprehension.

Methods of learning will incorporate a text, Allez, viens! 1, DVD's and CD-Rom tutorial software, novels, and short stories. Of equal importance is helping students develop and appreciation for and an understanding of other cultures.
French II
At level II, students will be expected to show greater skill in listening comprehension as the majority of the class will be taught in French. Students will be expected to respond in French to the extent that they are able. While vocabulary acquisition will remain an important element of all French classes, at level II, students will be exposed to more reading and writing.
